Offerings

“A jill of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

Hello, it’s Katie! I’m glad you’re here to learn more about me, my background and my offerings.

My professional experience is grounded in endless curiosity and a love of learning, spanning:

  • nonprofit development, grants and operations;
  • data and business analytics;
  • journalism, nonfiction storytelling and technical writing; and
  • project coordination and media production.

Read on to learn more about my values and offerings.

Values

Most importantly, the wide-variety of skills I bring to my work lean on my core values that can help us determine if we’d make a good fit.

Transparency: Like other neurospicy minds, I appreciate straight-forward — yet considerate and kind — and accessible communication, one that ensures all team mates are heard, can share knowledge and ask questions, and understand their worth and roles.

Inclusion: All personal histories, identities, abilities and generations matter. I continue to work on dismantling my own biases and insecurities to counteract potential blindspots and harms. If harm is done, I will gently work towards repair with patient listening and responsiveness.

Compassion: I strive to empathically treat others how I want to be treated, especially for populations that have been oppressed, exploited or historically marginalized.

Authenticity: Acting like someone I’m not is exhausting and feels dishonest. As a sensitive, yet relational, introvert with lived experience of anxiety, depression and burnout, I attempt to bring my true self into all that I do — healthy boundaries and sense of humor included.

Curiosity: I’ll never act like an expert, that I know everything or that I don’t make mistakes (because spoiler, we all do). I relish in the fact that not one of us can know or control it all and that we need each other to make substantial change.

Offerings

Expand a section to read more about the services I offer below or explore examples of my work in my portfolio. Some of these offerings may overlap, such as helping to produce grant narratives, program budgets or annual reports.

Non-fiction storytelling & communications

I use my journalism, public relations / communications and writing experience to produce reported essays, features and evergreens, editorial calendars, social media posts / graphics and digital content that increase a sense of belonging, curiosity or action for social change.

Technical writing & data reporting

Leaning on my experience in data analytics, social science research and software development, I am adept at collecting, organizing and communicating complex information for a variety of audiences to produce help center docs, reports, user guides, SOPs, Q&As, grant proposals and related materials.

Fact-checking, research & editing

A mix of data sleuthing experience and a newfound commitment to journalism and writing education / training over the last several years, I provide accurate and thorough research; prepared interviews conducted with respect and care; reliable copy editing / proofreading in various writing styles; and consistent fact-checking to ensure accuracy and quality.

Media production & asset management

In what feels like another life, I worked in TV and film production for six years in various roles, mostly production coordination: a role that allowed me to support and communicate with all production teams and departments — from costuming to studio department heads. Although I do not wear the badge of honor I once wore for working 60+ hours per week minimum and getting the job done no matter what (health be damned) I still carry the scrappy ability to handle minute tasks, changing priorities and problem solving with creativity and calmness.

I am currently interested in supporting indie documentary or educational productions (audio and video) as a thought partner, associate producer / writer, fact-checker or researcher. These offerings will no doubt continue to evolve as I step back into this realm after a several-years-long hiatus.

Operational & project support

In addition to the creative work and technical experience, I’m used to being one of the people behind the curtain, helping to keep all the moving parts in order. I believe I’m able to successfully keep projects moving because I prioritize healthy working relationships; hold the big picture and the project’s potential effects on others in mind; communicate honestly; and strive to produce the best deliverables that I can.

A little more about me, while you’re here…

When not tailoring to the avoidance of sunburns, I enjoy living in my hometown, Tempe, Arizona, with my partner, Justin, and our furry family members, Tyrion and Atticus. I have a B.A. in journalism from Arizona State University with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in Spanish.

I’m a devoted aunt, a gardener who kills plants often, a lover of all things film and TV, and an introvert who re-energizes with bouts of podcasts, dog walks and time in nature. I pride myself as someone who cares deeply for personal growth, lifelong learning and social justice. And I believe we all share a purpose to do good in the world.

All in all, I aspire to enjoy life by way of adventures, giving back, reading, writing and time in cool outdoor spaces — the last of which I am obviously deprived in the desert.
